Instant moong dal idli
Instant moong dal idli is a perfect healthy breakfast recipe. It us one of the easiest and simplest recipe in which yellow moong dal is not paired with urad dal. Instead yellow moong dal is combined with just 2 tbsps of poha. Usually idli is served with sambhar but this lip smacking recipe is served with coconut pudina chutney. This is the best idli chutney combination.
Quick recipe tip -
1. Adjust spices according to taste.
2. Soak yellow moong dal for 4 hours.
3. Incase it is too thick add little water and if it is thin add little rava.
Ingredients -
1 cup yellow moong dal (soaked)
2 tbsp poha (soaked)
1 inch pc ginger chopped
2 green chillies
1/4 cup curd
As needed water
To taste salt
A pinch turmeric powder
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp eno or 1/4 tsp baking soda
For coconut pudina chutney :
1 cup Coconut powder
1/4 cup mint leaves
1/2 cup coriander leaves
2 fresh green chillies
1 inch pc ginger
4-5 garlic cloves
1 tsp tamarind paste
To taste salt
Water as needed
Method with step photos -
1. Take moong dal in a bowl.
2. Wash and soak moong dal for 4 hours.
3. Take poha in a small bowl.
4. Wash and soak poha for 15 minutes.
5. Drain water from dal and poha. Add both in mixer grinder jar. Add ginger and green chilli.
6. Add curd and grind it to a smooth paste. Add very less amount of water if needed.
7. Transfer the batter in a bowl.
8. Add salt, turmeric powder and mustard seeds.
9. Mix well. The consistency of the batter should be thick but pouring. (Incase it is too thick add little water and if it is thin add little rava.) Cover and keep aside for 15 minutes.
10. Add eno or baking soda and mix well. Add a tsp of water and mix.
11. Mix nicely until the batter is all frothy.
12. Heat water in idli maker. Grease idli moulds. Pour idli batter in each mould.
13. Place idli stand in idli cooker.
14. Close the lid and steam idlies for 10-12 minute on high flame. Switch off the flame.
15. Let it sit for 5 minute. Open the lid of the idli cooker.
16. Take out the idli mould from the idli cooker.
17. Take out idlies from the moulds.
18. Place idlies in a plate.
Method for making chutney :
19. In a mixer jar add mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chillies, ginger, garlic, tamarind paste, salt and water.
20. Grind it to a smooth paste.
21. Add coconut powder. Grind it.
22. Grind it to a smooth paste. Add water if required.
23. Transfer it to a bowl.
