Paneer bhurji / Scrambled paneer

 Paneer bhurji / Scrambled paneer


A popular North Indian dish made from scrambled paneer or mashed/ crumbled cottage cheese which is tossed with spice powders. Goes well with paratha, toasted bread.


Ingredients -

400 gram paneer
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp garlic green chilli paste
2 onions chopped
1/2 cup tomato puree
To taste Salt
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1 tbsp lemon juice


For serving -


1 small onion sliced
To taste Salt
1 tsp lemon juice
1 green chilli sliced


Method -

1. Crumble paneer with fingers and keep aside till use.
2. Heat oil in a wok. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter for a second. Add garlic green chilli paste and fry for a minute. Add onion and fry on slow flame till golden.
3. Add tomato puree and mix. Cover and cook for 3-5 minutes.
4. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and mix well.
5. Cover and cook till oil comes out from the mixture or the tomato puree is properly cooked.
6. Add crumbled paneer and mix well. Cook for 5 minutes on slow flame. Keep stirring.
7. Add lemon juice and mix. Switch off the flame. Cover and keep aside for few minutes.
8. Take a small bowl. Add thinly sliced onions in it.
9. Mix salt and lemon juice. Keep aside.
10. Transfer paneer bhurji in a serving bowl and serve with sliced onions and green chilli.

For sliced onions -

11. Take a small bowl. Add thinly sliced onions in it. Mix salt.


12. Add lemon juice. 


13. Mix well and keep aside.


14. Transfer paneer bhurji in a serving bowl.  


15. Serve with sliced onions and green chilli.
